Sister Emmanuel's Medjugorje Report for July
From the Desk of Sr. Emmanuel Maillard
Medjugorje, July 17, 2016 Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel
Dear Children of Medjugorje, Praised be Jesus and Mary!
1. On July 2, 2016 Mirjana received her monthly apparition at the Blue Cross, in the presence of a fairly large crowd. After the apparition, she shared the following message:
"Dear children! My real, living presence among you should make you happy because this is the great love of my Son. He is sending me among you so that, with a motherly love, I may grant you safety; that you may comprehend that pain and joy, suffering and love, make your soul live intensely; that I may call you anew to glorify the Heart of Jesus, the heart of faith, the Eucharist. From day to day through the centuries, my Son, alive, returns among you - He returns to you, though He has never left you. When one of you, my children, returns to Him, my motherly heart leaps with joy. Therefore, my children, return to the Eucharist, to my Son. The way to my Son is difficult, full of renunciations, but at the end, there is always the light. I understand your pains and sufferings, and with motherly love I wipe your tears. Trust in my Son, because He will do for you what you would not even know how to ask for. You, my children, you should be concerned only for your soul, because it is the only thing on earth that belongs to you. You will bring it, dirty or clean, before the Heavenly Father. Remember, faith in the love of my Son will always be rewarded. I implore you, in a special way, to pray for those whom my Son called to live according to Him and to love their flock. Thank you. "
2. "The Thief Comes Not, But for to Steal, and to Kill, and to Destroy" in Nice, France
How can anyone not be overwhelmed by the disaster in Nice on the evening of the 14th of July? Yes, how could we not be stricken upon seeing these images, these faces of missing children, these young people unexpectedly mowed down by death, these families decimated?
Far be it from me to add a single word to what you have seen, heard or read about this tragedy. However, I want to take you with me to the top of the pyramid of hate to see who, in reality, is manipulating this rising terrorism. Jesus says in the Gospel, when speaking of the "wolf" that penetrates the sheepfold to devour the sheep, and the thief, i.e. Satan: "The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy." (Jn 10:10) Satan is already dead in his soul, and out of jealousy towards mankind he wants everyone to perish with him, he wants to eradicate humanity from the face of the Earth. People who have sided with him can be recognized by their fierce hatred towards the little ones, the children and unborn babies, because their innocence reminds him so muchof Christ, the One who conquered death on the cross.
This "wolf" has 1000 ways of convincing human minds to accomplish his deadly work. He not only takes advantage of a total absence of fasting and prayer (these powerful twins that disarm him), but also sneaks through doors that we open to him by going against the Words of Life that God has given to us by choosing to trample on them through sin and sinful habits. "The wages of sin is death", says Saint Paul, "but the free gift of God is eternal life." (Rom 6:23). But thanks be to God and His infinite goodness, we can always return to Him with all our heart and sincerely renounce sin, throw ourselves into the arms of the Merciful Christ, be washed of our stain and shut the door to the Destroyer.
3. Spotlight on Belgrade
Lately I read the startling testimony of Dr. Stojan Adasevic, an obstetrician- gynecologist who practiced in Belgrade (Serbia). I would like to quote a brief part of this testimony, something you will never hear in a homily and even less in a lecture theatre (arena?) at a University of Medicine.
In Communist Yugoslavia at the end of the last century, Stojan had learned that abortion, as taught in the faculties, was a surgical procedure similar to a case of appendicitis. The only difference was in the organ being removed: in one case, a piece of the intestine, and in another, embryonic tissue. He began to have some doubts during the 1980s, when ultra-sound technology came to Yugoslav hospitals. For the first time, Adasevic saw on the screen what, until then, had remained hidden from his eyes: the inside of a woman's uterus carrying a living child, sucking his thumb, moving his arms and legs. During his "procedures", half the time different parts of the aborted child were lying on the table right next to him. "I saw without seeing" he now recalls.
4. "I was holding a beating heart in my hand".
One morning, after thinking about no longer performing abortions, Stojan's cousin insisted that Stojan abort his girlfriend's pregnancy - she was 3 or 4 months pregnant. She wanted to get rid of her 9th consecutive child. Stojan refused, but his cousin was so pressing that he gave in. He said, "Ok, but this is the last time!"
He told the story: "I opened up the womb, tore the placenta, the birth waters flowed out and I got to work on the insides with my abortion forceps. I grabbed something, crushed it a little, removed it and threw it onto a cloth. I look, and I see a hand - quite a large hand. The child was 3 and a half perhaps 4 months old, I had no tape to measure it. Someone had spilt some iodine on a part of the table and the hand fell in such a way that the nerve ends came into contact with the iodine, and what happened? I look and I say, "My God, the hand is moving by itself." Stojan shuddered, but continued the abortion.
"I nevertheless carry on with my forceps and again catch something, crush it and pull it out. I think to myself: 'Let it not be a leg.' I pull and look: a leg. I want to put the leg on the table carefully, so that it isn't near the moving hand. As my arm falls I hear a bang behind my back. I jumped and automatically my grip on the forceps loosened. At this very moment the leg completed a somersault and landed next to the hand. I look - both hand and leg are moving by themselves! I nevertheless once again direct my instrument into the womb and begin to crush everything inside. I think to myself that all I need to complete the picture is the heart. I continue to crush and crush and crush until I am sure that I have ground everything inside into a pulp, and once again pull out the forceps. As I pull out the mass thinking it will be bone fragments and lay it on the cloth, I look and I see a human heart contracting and expanding and beating, beating, beating. I thought I would go mad. I can see that the heartbeat is slowing ever more slowly and yet more slowly still until it finally stops completely. Nobody could have seen what I had seen with my very own eyes and been more convinced than I was, that I had killed a human being."
Stojan's own heart reeled and everything went black around him. How long this lasted, he cannot say. But the voice of a terrified nurse brought him out of his state: "Doctor Adasevic!" She cried, "the patient is bleeding!" For the first time since his childhood, he began to pray with sincerity: "Lord! Do not save me, but save this woman!"
Stojan finished the work. When he removed his gloves, he knew that this was his last abortion.
When Stojan informed the hospital manager of his decision, there was an outburst of reactions. Never before in Belgrade had a gynecologist refused to carry out abortions. They put pressure on him. His salary was reduced by half. His daughter was fired. His son "failed" his University entrance exams. He was attacked in the press and on television. The Socialist state, they said, had enabled him to study so that he could perform abortions and now he was leading a sabotage operation against the State...
Saint Thomas Aquinas appeared to him in a dream. Giving him a pat on the shoulder, Thomas said to him: "You are my friend, my good friend. Keep up with the battle!" Adasevic decided to continue the fight. Before his conversion, he said he had performed around 50,000 abortions.
Why draw this parallel between the horrors of today's terrorism and this testimony that evokes thousands of children torn to pieces? Because there is a law of cause and effect. "We must not be surprised," said Mother Teresa of Calcutta, "when we hear of murders, of killings, of wars, of hatred. If a mother can kill her own child, what is left but for us to kill each other? That is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion." (P.S. 1). Father Jozo Zovko said: "A country that kills its children has no future." Both of them practiced mercy to the limits of their strength. But they never hid the truth. Out of mercy, they spoke! They did not accuse, they warned people of the danger in order to save them from the tragedy and its consequences. Mary said to the young people's prayer group: "When you see a mother who has killed her child, do not judge her, welcome her with love and do everything that is in your power to bring her back to God and go to confession..." Gloria Polo, a great witness of our time, says that when she died after being struck by lightening, she saw that every abortion is like an act of worship to Satan. Every time, to his great satisfaction, some of the seals closing hell break open, releasing demons that especially attack priests. (See P.S. 2) The spirit of death of course seeks those whom Jesus has chosen to be another Himself, within His flock, to love Him and make Him known!
In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, every priest has received the power to forgive the sin of abortion (power normally reserved for the Bishop) and its consequences, thanks to the indulgence. This will comfort many mothers - and fathers - who chose abortion. Thus they can find the door to Hope.
Dear brothers and sisters, if we live the Word of God, we will be safe because it is a lamp for our feet, a light on our path (Ps 109:105). The "10 Words" given to Moses (the 10 Commandments) are safe beacons for walking in a state of grace and to enjoy the blessing of God. But if we ignore these Words of Life and leave the door open to sin, if we continue to build up a world without God, the 'wolves' will continue to roam. The Queen of Peace is so clear, so transparent in her messages! Let us read again the 5 stones of Medjugorje, and this summer, let us offer her a beautiful decision to live the one which we have most neglected.
5. Vicka is unwell again
She had to leave for Rome for renewed treatment for her spine which is already so damaged. Let us pray for this courageous woman who thinks only of feeding us with the messages from the Blessed Virgin Mary, often at the cost of her health! She continues to offer her suffering to Jesus with joy, so that we can live the messages.
your tender gaze on each of us, your children, renews our courage! Thank Heaven that you are with us! What would we do without you? See to it that our hand never lets go of yours!
