This blog was started on July 21st, 2015, after my Mary, Our Mother blog had mysteriously disappeared. I will post only Marian items, especially regarding Medjugorje and other Marian apparitions. Thank you for reading this blog. May it give great glory to God through the Immaculate Heart of Mary!

Consecration - Day 11
(Ascension of the Lord in some Dioceses)
Dear Family of Mary!
This is Day 11 of
our consecration! Today and tomorrow we will consider the importance of
our firm resolve to live a new life in Christ. It is one thing to
understand that we need to change, but quite another to take practical
steps to do so! In our fight against temptation and our attempts to do
the good, we must make a strong effort each day. But this is daunting
for most of us!
Here is where the little way of St. Therese comes in, as Fr. Gaitley tells us:
Therese shares with us an illuminating metaphor of a little child at the
bottom of a staircase (probably the 'rough stairway of perfection').
Now, the child, who is all of us little souls, cannot even climb the
first step of that big staircase - we're too little. But Therese tells
us to try. She say, 'Raise your little foot to scale the stairway of
holiness.' Of course we won't be successful, but Therese then adds, 'God
requires you only to demonstrate your good will.' In other words, we
just need to give it a try. And as we do, Therese tells us the God will
be 'conquered by [our] futile efforts' and will then descend the stairway, gather us into his arms, and take us to the heights!
Therese's point seems to be that our efforts in the spiritual life are
absolutely necessary but also absolutely useless. What? I mean that in
the sense that Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta meant when she'd often
say, 'God doesn't call us to be successful but to be faithful.' In other
words, as it applies to our spiritual lives, the Lord doesn't demand
that we attain all the virtues (success) but that we simply keep trying
(faithfulness). (Gaitley p. 55-56)
of God's mercy and love is so healing for all of us who find that a firm
resolve not to sin and to do good just doesn't take us that far. We are
little and we fail. But God in His mercy will make up for our weakness
if we just keep trying and keep believing in His mercy!!
Our Lady once said to us:
November 13, 1986 "Dear
children! Today again I am calling you to pray with your whole heart
and day by day to change your life. Especially, dear children, I am
calling that by your prayers and sacrifices you begin to live in
holiness, because I desire that each one of you who has been to this
fountain of grace will come to Paradise with the special gift which you
shall give me, and that is holiness. Therefore, dear children, pray and
daily change your life in order to become fully holy. I shall always be
close to you. Thank you for having responded to my call."
Our Lady encourages
us to keep trying just like Therese! She knows that it is not our
success that is so important, but rather that every day we try again to
be holy. In our commitment to try, God can work with His grace. All we
can do is pray with our heart, our whole heart, and try!
