Day 22
Dear Family of Mary!
Day 22! We are asking for a deeper knowledge of Our Lady during this week of preparation. Our Scripture for today is the Finding in the Temple:
And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him. Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the Passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up according to custom; and when the feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it, but supposing him to be in the company they went a day's journey, and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintances; and when they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking him.

After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions; and all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. And when they saw him they were astonished; and his mother said to him, "Son, why have you treated us so? Behold, your father and I have been looking for you anxiously." And he said to them, "How is it that you sought me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?" And they did not understand the saying which he spoke to them. And he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and man. (Lk 2:40-52)
I included the entire account because I love the details. It seems to me that this has to be the real account, because it contains so many details. The Holy Family went to Jerusalem every year for Passover! By the time He was twelve, Jesus knew it well. And it is amazing how relaxed Joseph and Mary were about Jesus on the return. He was a big kid, and had friends to hang out with. They would find Him by evening!
Well, when it was time to rest for the night, no Jesus. Then the alarm bells went off! How many parents know the feeling when a child comes up missing. Mary was upset! And it must have been a long three days for her.
But listen to her words to Jesus upon finding Him: "Son, why have you treated us so? Behold, your father and I have been looking for you anxiously." Mary said exactly what she was feeling to Jesus. No hysterics. Just straight talk. But she wanted an answer. Jesus had to explain Himself. And Jesus was equally honest with His mother: "How is it that you sought me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?" They both questioned each other! And Our Lady didn't understand Jesus, even after that. This is a real family relationship!
I know there are deeper meanings to this event. But it does show Mary as a normal and natural mother with Jesus. Preteens are pretty testy. And Jesus was no different. He knew He had a job to do one day for the Father in Heaven, but He also had to wait until His time came. Mary was His tie to normal life, the one who guided Him to adulthood. And she was tough enough to do it!
Mary is a real mother. And she has real motherly reactions. She has shown us these reactions in her messages. Here is one example:
May 25, 1987
"Dear children! I am calling every one of you to start living in God's love. Dear children, you are ready to commit sin, and to put yourselves in the hand of satan without reflecting. I call on each one of you to consciously decide for God and against satan. I am your Mother and, therefore, I want to lead you all to perfect holiness. I want each one of you to be happy here on earth and to be with me in Heaven. That is, dear children, the purpose of my coming here and it's my desire. Thank you for having responded to my call."

Our Lady speaks the truth, straight on. She wants us to be in Heaven with her. She is our real Mother. No more real a mother could we have!
Let us pray:
