St. Hilary
Dear Family of Mary!
August 25, 1989 "Dear children! I call you to prayer. By means of prayer, little children, you obtain joy and peace. Through prayer you are richer in the mercy of God. Therefore, little children, let prayer be the life of each one of you. Especially I call you to pray so that all those who are far away from God may be converted. Then our hearts shall be richer because God will rule in the hearts of all men. Therefore, little children, pray, pray, pray! Let prayers begin to rule in the whole world. Thank you for having responded to my call."

Yesterday (January 12), Fr. Maximillian gave the homily for English Mass. He spoke about Hannah, the mother of Samuel. She was married for many years, but was barren. In her pain and desire for a child, she prayed with tears and moans at the temple where Eli was priest. Eli thought she was drunk.
Fr. Maximillian said she was praying in the Holy Spirit, because out of the depths of her sorrow she was calling on God. (He said people often don't recognize the power of the Holy Spirit, as in the case of the Apostles at Pentecost. Everyone thought they were drunk too!) But Father makes the point that it was this heartfelt prayer that moved God to give Hannah a child, and not just any child, but Samuel. He was to become a great prophet for Israel.
Fr. Maximillian encouraged us to pray from our hearts, like Hannah. He said that in this day we need to raise a cry of pain and supplication to the Lord for all those who suffer, all those who need God. God waits for such prayer. He wants to deliver us, but He needs such prayer in the Holy Spirit.
Let me share a passage from St. Faustina's Diary that contains the same call to prayer:
1934. On the day of the Assumption of the Mother of God, I did not assist at Holy Mass. The woman doctor80 did not allow me; but I prayed fervently in my cell. After a short time, I saw the Mother of God, unspeakably beautiful. She said to me, My daughter, what I demand from you is prayer, prayer, and once again prayer, for the world and especially for your country. For nine days receive Holy Communion in atonement and unite yourself closely to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. During these nine days you will stand before God as an offering; always and everywhere, at all times and places, day or night, whenever you wake up, pray in the spirit. In spirit, one can always remain in prayer. (325 Diary)
Certainly, Our Lady was calling St. Faustina to pray, pray, pray! St. Faustina had been given the grace to intercede for her country. And for the whole world. And she lived that grace with all her heart until her dying breath. This grace has also been extended to us in this day, through Our Lady. She is asking us to join her in interceding for the whole world. But we must pray from our hearts, from compassion for all those in the world who are far from God, and for all who suffer.
May this Year of Mercy be a year of prayer from the heart for the whole world.
In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
