Are you memory“ing” your transition from 2015 to 2016?

Caritas Community New Years 2014

Caritas Community New Years 2014/2015 at the Cross on Penitentiary Mountain, sending up their prayers by lighting sky lanterns, and watching their prayers and the lanterns go up to the heavens...

Every year, the Caritas Community gathers in prayer to transition in the new year. This is a tradition that the founder of Caritas began with his family before the Community was started. When you gather for a holy purpose, you not only receive the grace of prayer, but, God also gives you joy, for you will never experience togetherness like you can when you gather for a holy reason in prayer. It is like Medjugorje visionary Ivan said about prayer groups, a principle that is true for any relationship, that you grow closer to each other by praying together, than by talking to each other.

While many spend their New Year's eve in party“ing” in a worldly way, Our Lady is showing in Her messages to be memory“ing” these moments in prayer. Our Lady of Medjugorje said on December 31, 1984:

“When you hear the bells at midnight, you will fall on your knees, bow your head to the ground so that the King of Peace will come. This year I will offer my peace to the world. But afterwards, I will ask you where you were when I offered you my peace.”

We are being offered Mercy this year. Tonight, New Year's Eve, in this Year of Mercy, think of when 2016 ends. Will you have memoried this evening tonight in a holy way? The founder of Caritas, his family and the Caritas Community will be remembering all of you in prayer tonight as we memory this moment together in prayer and love.

St. Sylvester I
New Year's Eve

Dear Family of Mary!

October 25, 2014 "Dear children! Pray in this time of grace and seek the intercession of all the saints who are already in the light. From day to day may they be an example and encouragement to you on the way of your conversion. Little children, be aware that your life is short and passing. Therefore, yearn for eternity and keep preparing your hearts in prayer. I am with you and intercede before my Son for each of you, especially for those who have consecrated themselves to me and to my Son. Thank you for having responded to my call."

Tonight we say good bye to another year. So much has happened during 2015. Many trials have come upon the world, but also many graces have been given. We know that God is with us, that Our Lady is by our side, and that good will win. Our Lady has told us so.

As we enter 2016, many of us enter into prayer, putting God is the first place in our lives and in this New Year. We can take part in a beautiful tradition tonight or tomorrow, that of asking the Lord to give us a saint as a companion for this New Year! It is a wonderful tradition! Each year we are given a new saint to be our guide and protector. Year after year these saints gather around us, praying for us and encouraging us to holiness. We experience their companionship and it is a comfort.

St. Faustina's community observed this tradition. One year she wrote:

Jesus likes to intervene in the smallest details of our life, and He often fulfills secret wishes of mine that I sometimes hide from Him, although I know that from Him nothing can be hidden.

There is a custom among us of drawing by lot, on New Year's Day, special Patrons for ourselves for the whole year. In the morning during meditation, there arose within me a secret desire that the Eucharistic Jesus be my special Patron for this year also, as in the past. But, hiding this desire from my Beloved, I spoke to Him about everything else but that. When we came to refectory for breakfast, we blessed ourselves and began drawing our patrons. When I approached the holy cards on which the names of the patrons were written, without hesitation I took one, but I didn't read the name immediately (152) as I wanted to mortify myself for a few minutes. Suddenly, I heard a voice in my soul: I am your patron. Read. I looked at once at the inscription and read, "Patron for the Year 1935 - the Most Blessed Eucharist." My heart leapt with joy, and I slipped quietly away from the sisters and went for a short visit before the Blessed Sacrament, where I poured out my heart. But Jesus sweetly admonished me that I should be, at that moment, together with the sisters. I went immediately in obedience to the rule. (360 Diary)
Saint Faustina understood how very much Jesus was listening to her every desire when she received Him as her saint for the year! What a confirmation of the nearness of God!! We too will find consolation when we pick our saints for this coming year. The Lord knows just how to show us He is listening to our hearts and is answering our secret prayers.

We have an updated list of saints on our web page at this link: http://www.marytv.tv/saints-list

I suggest you download the PDF of the saints list, by clicking on the read link at the top of the page. This PDF file will print out easily, and you can cut up the squares with saint's names easily. Then, during a short prayer time, you and your family and friends can choose a saint.

God bless you, and may the Saints be with us in 2016!

Dear Family of Mary!

Dear children! All these years that God permits me to be with you are a sign of the immeasurable love which God has for each one of you and a sign of how much God loves you. Little children, how many graces the Most High has given to you and how many graces he desires to give to you. But, little children, your hearts are closed and live in fear, and do not permit Jesus to have His love and His peace overcome your hearts and to begin to reign in your lives. To live without God means to live in darkness and never to come to know the Father's love and His care for each of you. Therefore, little children, today in a special way pray to Jesus that as of today your life may experience a new birth in God and become a light which will radiate from within you, and thus that you may become witnesses of God's presence in the world to every person who lives in darkness. Little children, I love you and daily intercede before the Most High for you. Thank you for having responded to my call. (December 25, 2015 Jakov)

"But, little children, your hearts are closed and live in fear..."

Here is what Jesus said to St. Faustina about fear, and how she responded:

[May 1937]. Corpus Christi.
During prayer, I heard these words: My daughter, let your heart be filled with joy. I, the Lord, am with you. Fear nothing. You are in My heart. At that moment, I knew the great majesty of God, and I understood that nothing could be compared with one single perception of God. Outward greatness dwindles like a speck of dust before one act of a deeper knowledge of God.
The Lord has poured such a depth of peace into my soul that nothing will disturb it any more. Despite everything that goes on around me, I am not deprived of my peace for a moment. Even if the whole world were crumbling, it would not disturb the depth of the silence which is within me and in which God rests. All events, all the various things which happen are under His foot.

This deeper knowledge of God gives me full liberty and spiritual freedom, and nothing can disturb my close union with Him, not even the angelic powers. I feel that I am great when I am united to God. What happiness it is to have the consciousness of God in one's heart and to live in close intimacy with Him. (1133,34,35 Diary)
I believe St. Faustina experienced exactly what Our Lady desire for us. She lived without fear, because she was in deep unity with Jesus, filled with His light and living in total trust.

May we become fearless, joy-filled Christians, ready to share the peace we have with everyone!

Dear Family of Mary!

Dear children! All these years that God permits me to be with you are a sign of the immeasurable love which God has for each one of you and a sign of how much God loves you. Little children, how many graces the Most High has given to you and how many graces He desires to give to you. But, little children, your hearts are closed and live in fear and [you] do not permit Jesus to have His love and His peace overcome your hearts and to begin to reign in your lives. To live without God means to live in darkness and never to come to know the Father's love and His care for each of you. Therefore, little children, today in a special way pray to Jesus that, as of today, your life may experience a new birth in God and become a light which will radiate from within you, and thus that you may become witnesses of God's presence in the world to every person who lives in darkness. Little children, I love you and daily intercede before the Most High for you. Thank you for having responded to my call. (December 25, 2015 - Jakov)

Our Lady speaks to us about two impediments to living in the light and joy of God in this message. They are two very bad habits that we can develop in our lives, habits to slowly choke the life of God out of us.

The first impediment is ingratitude. Our Lady tells us over and over again that God has permitted her to be with us as a sign of His love for us. He has allowed Mary to come to Medjugorje each day for 34 years now. But do we actually understand the magnitude of this blessing? Do we live in a state of gratitude for such a great gift? Does Our Lady's presence with us fill us with the deepest thanksgiving to God? If it does not, it is because our hearts are hard as rock. We should be pinching ourselves every day, so full of wonder that she is with us!

The second impediment is fear. Fear is not of God. Fear comes from a lack of faith in God's love for us. Fear is produced out of our own desire to control our lives and the lives of those around us. We fear when we don't get our way, and we feel that God is not strong in His decisions and is not thinking of us. Fear is the opposite of gratitude. If we don't appreciate Our Lady's presence, and we don't understand what it means for us that she is with us, we will instead feel the entire weight of our lives on our own shoulders, and we will fear! That fear closes us to the loving interventions of our gentle and oh so generous God. Fear blinds us to the light God sheds upon us, and isolates us in our own imaginings. Fear is the opposite of love.

When we live in ingratitude and fear we live without God. And that is a terrible place to live. It is dark and cold and hopeless.

But Our Lady shows us the way out of that place. And it is very simple: "Little children, today in a special way pray to Jesus that, as of today, your life may experience a new birth in God and become a light which will radiate from within you...." We can be transformed right now, today! We can renounce fear and ingratitude, and simply pray to Jesus to fill us with new life, new birth, new light, now joy! Jesus will do it. He will fill our hearts with wonder at the love we are being shown through Our Lady, and He will fill our souls with courage based on a deep faith that God is love, and God's plan for us is good and filled with hope. Simple as that, all will be completely different for us from that moment on!

"Therefore, little children, today in a special way pray to Jesus that, as of today, your life may experience a new birth in God and become a light which will radiate from within you, and thus that you may become witnesses of God's presence in the world to every person who lives in darkness."

Amen, amen!

The Holy Innocents

Dear Family of Mary!

Yesterday, on the Feast of the Holy Family, Fr. Leon Pereira gave a great homily on families, holy and not so holy. I have transcribed it, but you can listen to it at  www.marytv.tv in the Daily English Mass Homilies window on the home page (122715)

Fr. Leon Pereira

Homily on Dec. 27, 2015 - Feast of the Holy Family

Now as most of you know about my former life, I used to be a doctor. One of the jobs I had to do around this time of year, was one of the jobs that no one else wanted to do. Because on St. Stephen's Day and on New Year's Day we had one of the highest rates of attempted suicides. So the family didn't want to talk (These are the people who have attempted suicide but survived.) because they felt embarrassed or betrayed. And the staff didn't want to talk to them because it was depressing. So I as the junior doctor had the duty to do this.

Now talking to them is fairly easy, actually, because the people who attempt suicide and survive, are surprisingly willing to chat. And there are lots of common similarities in the things that come up, but one of the things that came up especially on St. Stephen's Day was that they talked about their families. They would mention how they didn't like their family. And you didn't want to say things like, "Join the club!" No one has a happy family. No one has a perfect family. Some people have truly awful families. Really abusive, horrible families.

But there is this pressure at Christmas time to play at happy families. You know, it is like a children's game. You have to pretend to sit together and to eat with people you can hardly stand. And say, "Pass the turkey please", when you might rather stab them in the eye with a knife! (I think Father is exaggerating to make a point!!!!) And then all these tensions come up. There are always fights on Christmas Day when families get together. Things that have been bubbling for years come to the surface.

This pressure to play at happy families is, first of all, unnecessary. And more importantly terribly unwanted. I say these words of Chesterton as a kind of a mantra that consoles me. Chesterton said, "Friends are God's apology for relatives." And that is a very consoling thought to bear in mind.

Now having said that, most people have "kind of" functional families. They get together and they are able not to kill each other. But when we do all this, the pressure to live up to some strange ideal overlooks the obvious, that families are about ordinary things. Family is not about extraordinary things. They are not about people trying to get along, who really can't get along. But rather they are about doing little things for each other, and showing great love in the little things.

Everything about the life of Jesus speaks to us about God. For most of his life, Jesus did entirely ordinary things. Eating, drinking, washing, going to school, learning a trade, praying, going to Jerusalem on a pilgrimage, learning the Scriptures, obeying his parents. God, Himself, spent 30 years on earth doing entirely ordinary things, just like the rest of us. All of this show concretely how God enters in to our mundane world, not as a concession but because He actually thinks that this is a good thing.

Now the paintings of Christmas capture this idea beautifully. In many of them the Three Wise Men come and they present their lavish gifts in sumptuous finery, while the Christ Child is playing with their crowns, or in some of them the Christ Child does not even notice their gifts because He is mesmerized by His toes. He is looking at His toes and playing with them. I think that this is an absolutely lovely thing! You need to be mesmerized by your toes, because we need to think about this. The fact that I have a body and that God assumed at complete human nature, a body and soul, to be just like me! It is absolutely astounding. The Christ Child should be mesmerized by His toes!

Now the essence of a family is that it is natural. You can't choose who is part of your family. They are either your family or they are not. Whether and how much you love them is irrelevant to this definition. When God becomes a baby to make us part of His family, He draws us in, in such a way that He will never cast us out. He chooses not to cast us out, but we make that choice, we choose not to be in it. God forbid.

What makes us part of this family is Baptism. In Baptism, you receive the entire Trinity, Who come to dwell in us. They make us part of the Body of Christ, part of the family of God. And this is why the Baby Jesus yearns...yearns to be part of our lives, with all the mundane things.

So as long as we treat God as something extraneous, then we are more likely to jettison Him when things become hard. So long as God is someone you pray to when things are difficult, so long as God is only someone you pray to in order to ask for things, then it is more likely that when things are tough, you will think, "Why should I bother? Why should I bother since He hasn't given me everything that I wanted for Christmas?" But if God is someone you delight in the way the Christ Child delights in His toes, then you will never abandon Him and He will certainly never abandon us!

God is our family. The Trinity are the only truly happy family. And they want us to share in their happiness. We may not have a perfectly happy family, but we have the promise of one, the perfect family of the saints. And the image of the perfect family that we see in the family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph! But remember their holiness comes about from doing ordinary things, eating, drinking, washing, going to school, working, cleaning...this is where their holiness lies and where their holiness shines! And our guarantee of all of this is the Christ Child, mesmerized by His toes! Delighting in the ordinary things or our lives. And He is God's promise to us, Emmanuel, God with us!

He is the reason that the Holy Family are called, HOLY! And indeed, why they are a family. And the reason why we ourselves are called to be part of the most fantastic family ever! In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit! Amen!

Thank you, Fr. Leon!!  Our Lady is not unrealistic about our families either. Like Fr. Leon, she knows that our families are torn by division, unforgiveness, bickering, etc. She once said to us:

December 25, 1991 "Dear children! Today in a special way I bring the little Jesus to you, that He may bless you with His blessing of peace and love. Dear children, do not forget that this is a grace which many people neither understand nor accept. Therefore, you who have said that you are mine, and seek my help, give all of yourself. First of all, give your love and example in your families. You say that Christmas is a family feast. Therefore, dear children, put God in the first place in your families, so that He may give you peace and may protect you not only from war, but also in peace protect you from every satanic attack. When God is with you, you have everything. But when you do not want Him, then you are miserable and lost, and you do not know on whose side you are. Therefore, dear children, decide for God. Then you will get everything. Thank you for having responded to my call."

May we all yearn for our Heavenly family, and decide to bring heaven into our families, through love and prayer.

Our Lady's Annual Apparition and Message to Jakov on
December 25, 2015

At the last daily apparition to Jakov Colo on September 12th, 1998, Our Lady told him that henceforth he would have one apparition per year, every December 25th, on Christmas Day. This is also how it was this year. Afterwards Jakov transmitted the following message:

"Dear children! All these years that God permits me to be with you are a sign of the immeasurable love which God has for each one of you and a sign of how much God loves you. Little children, how many graces the Most High has given to you and how many graces he desires to give to you.
