St. John of the Cross
Dear Family of Mary!
During the Hour of Mercy prayer time yesterday and during the Daily Rosary, there was a recurring theme. The Holy Spirit seems to guide us when we pray together, often giving us a theme for our meditation. Yesterday the theme was "the will of God". It was good to meditate on the will of God, as it is manifest in each individual. Here is the message that began it all:
"Dear children! Also today I call you to pray for peace. Pray with the heart, little children, and do not lose hope because God loves His creatures. He desires to save you, one by one, through my coming here. I call you to the way of holiness. Pray, and in prayer you are open to God's will; in this way, in everything you do, you realize God's plan in you and through you. Thank you for having responded to my call." (March 25, 2003)
I love this message. It expresses the reality of God's great love for us. Our Lady tells us that we should not lose hope because God loves His creatures. Doesn't this touch you to the core? He desires to save us! Isn't this the basis of all our hope? And not just save us as a people, but one by one! That means He is involved in each of our lives intimately.
But the best part is Our Lady's advice to pray. We need to pray so that we can open to God's will. Without prayer, we will not open to God's will, because we will not encounter it. We will be blind, without sense, wandering through life. Prayer is our communication with the God who longs to save us one by one. And through prayer we will be able to realize God's plan for our lives, and in relation to all those whom we touch. Living God's will is how life becomes beautiful!
St. Faustina wrote about holiness and God's will in this beautiful passage:
Today during meditation, God gave me inner light and the understanding as to what sanctity is and of what it consists. Although I have heard these things many times in conferences, the soul understands them in a different way when it comes to know of them through the light of God which illumines it.
Neither graces, nor revelations, nor raptures, nor gifts granted to a soul make it perfect, but rather the intimate union of the soul with God. These gifts are merely ornaments of the soul, but constitute neither its essence nor its perfection. My sanctity and perfection consist in the close union of my will with the will of God. God never violates our free will. It is up to us whether we want to receive God's grace or not. It is up to us whether we will cooperate with it or waste it. (1107 Diary)
A close union of my will and the will of God! What a lovely way to express it. God invites us to join our will to His. He does not subjugate or demean us. He is a loving Father who invites us to work with Him for the salvation of our brothers and sisters. God is the great furnace of love. We can be little flames that draw strength from His great love. By our association with Him, we learn to be like Him, and in so doing we do His will. It is by imitation of His love that we learn to love!
This Jubilee Year will be full of great joy if we develop a close union of our will with the will of God! If we cuddle up closely to our Heavenly Father and stay there. If we begin to imitate the Father's way of being, His love, His generosity, His peace, His great respect for each soul, His good will for all His children and His limitless mercy, we will begin to live His will for each of us. He wants us to be like Him, like Jesus, in every way. What joy this will bring to us all!!
In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
